Big Blue a anuntat luni ca noul sau sistem supercomputer Blue Gene/P opereaza la o viteza de un petaflop. Insa, potrvit ZDNet, Sun spune ca noul sau Constellation System poate atinge un varf de doi petaflopi. La baza sistemului creat de Sun se afla un switch, denumit Magnum, care are 3.456 porturi care elibereaza caile de date din interiorul computerului. Sun crede ca densitarea porturilor si numarul mare al acestora creaza un "efect de casacada in ce priveste performanta". Texas Advanced Computing Centre (TACC) construieste un sistem Constellation bazat pe cipurile AMD Barcelona. Daca va putea obtine la timp destule cipuri, Sun se va putea intoarce in urmatorul top mondial al supercomputerelor, care va fi publicat in aceasta toamna.
