      RGC.ro ruleaza acum cea mai noua versiune a Invision Power Board. Versiunea anterioara a Invision Power Board nu mai primeste actualizari de scuritate, acesta fiind motivul principal pentru care am facut upgrade-ul. Functionalitatile cu care sunteti obisnuit ( chatul, sistemul de feedback/rating pentru tranzactii) sunt in continuare functionale dar e posibil ca modul prin care pot fi accesate sa fie usor diferit.   O parte din datele stocate in baza de date trebuie reprocesate si este posbil ca unele informatii sa nu fie imediat disponibile (ratinguri, mesaje private, semnaturi). Reprocesarea va dura aproximativ o zi.   Va rugam sa ne semnalati daca intampinati probleme in a utiliza siteul aici: Cateva modificari/noutati La adaugarea de feedback pentru o tranzactie este necesar sa mentionati un topic. Topicul introduce tastand in casuta aferenta titlul si apo selectand topicul respectiv. In postari se poate folosi caracterul @ urmat de numele unui utilizator pentru a atrage atentia utilizatorului respectiv. In functie de setari, utilizatorul va primi o notificare sau un email. Daca aia e cea mai proasta atunci ce-o fi asta? Nu inteleg, are pickup la Diddley Bow? Si ce cauta conserva aia acolo?

As well as an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar, Seasick Steve owns (and plays) a few obscure and personalised instruments such as these:

 

* The Three String Trance Wonder

o This is a normal guitar, but with only three strings. It has an old Harmony pickup added (with duct tape) and is played tuned to G, G and B using an E string in the A position, a D in the G position and a G in the B position. At his gigs, he often tells the story that he bought it for $75 in this condition in Como, Mississippi from a man named Sherman, who later told him he only paid $25 for it the day before. Steve vowed never to add another string, and that he would tour the world telling his story of how Sherman ripped him off. All in good fun as Sherman is a good buddy. A lot of the time he also adds (while picking up or putting away the guitar) that it is the "...biggest piece of shit in the world, I swear". During some Summer 2008 performances, the guitar had only two strings.

 

* The One Stringed Diddley Bow

o This is a one stringed string instrument played with a slide (He uses an old screwdriver for this purpose). It consists of a 2 foot long 2x4, with a semi-loose guitar string nailed to it at both ends. It was made especially for him by James 'Super Chikan' Johnson.

 

* The 'MDM', The Mississippi Drum Machine.

o A small wooden box that is stomped upon, providing percussion. It is decorated with a Mississippi license plate, and a small piece of carpet.

Kimbrough began playing in his own style, which made use of mid-tempo rhythms and a steady drone he played with his thumb on the bass strings of his guitar. His music is characterized by the tricky syncopations between his droning bass strings and his mid-range melodies. His soloing style has been described as modal and features langorous runs in the mid and upper register. The result is complex and funky, described by music critic Robert Palmer as "hypnotic."

 

But the blues is so much more than 12-bar. Take a guy like Junior Kimbrough, vamping on one chord and playing what some people call "modal blues". Without chord changes, his songs move relentlessly forward, in parallel with his stories, the guitar spinning off on variations of which exist in relationship to the one chord's root note.

The music of the trio is steeped in the traditional and the modern, the rough and the urban. It is useless to try and make comparisons; with Hell's Kitchen, nothing is that simple... just listen to the audacity of the instruments. Firstly... the hammering evokes the tools of mother Courage-Washboard, an assortment of bin lids, multiple springs and enormous tom drum- bringing to us the whole range of urban syncopation. The upright bass throbs and zigzags like a fish on acid while the guitars sizzle with an energy that would make even the dead swing.

 

But the songs of Hell's Kitchen are not only a gift to tempt one into their furnace. They will also drag you screaming along their road to hell... listen to the bottleneck, the car skidding, the inspired cacophony! The music is suffused with originality: the voice snarls, squeals and sings like the devils own. Look for it... it hides; ignore it, it surprises you. And in all of this, no calculation, nothing from the school books. Hell's Kitchen abhor the graph paper and the music stand, creative disorder is what rules the day.

 

In short, if you missed the devil passing by, come into Hell's kitchen and feel the heat!

Nãscut la New York, John Paul este fiul celebrului producãtor John Henry Hammond Jr. (1910–1987). Interpret de blues ºi chitarist, John P. Hammond a debutat în 1962 ºi de atunci ºi pânã acum a înregistrat 29 de albume, a fost de patru ori nominalizat pentru Grammy, câºtigând un trofeu, în 1985, cu albumul “Blues Explosion”.

 

Se poate mândri cu faptul cã este singurul om de pe pãmânt care i-a avut în acelaºi timp ºi în aceeaºi formație pe Jimi Hendrix ºi Eric Clapton!!! Asta se întâmpla în 1960, când cei doi viitori zei ai chitarei, au cântat timp de cinci seri la rând în formația lui Hammond, la The Gaslight Cafe din New York. Hammond menține o prietenie de lungã duratã ºi cu Tom Waits, iar printre piesele pe care le interpreteazã, deseori sunt ºi compoziții de-ale prietenului sãu. În 2001, Hammond a lansat “Wicked Grin”, un album alcãtuit în totalitate din piesele lui Tom Waits, care a fost producãtorul discului, având ºi câteva contribuții la chitarã ºi backing vocals.

 

In 1992 a apãrut un documentar despre viața marelui bluesman Robert Johnson, produs ºi povestit de Hammond. Pe albumul “Ready For Love”, apãrut în 2002 ºi produs de David Hidalgo (de la Los Lobos), John Paul a înregistrat “The Spider and The Fly”, o cunoscutã compoziție Rolling Stones, semnatã Mick Jagger/ Keith Richards.

Davis is most notable for his distinctive style of guitar playing. Davis plays guitar using a table knife in his fretting hand in a manner similar to slide guitar, resulting in a welter of metal-stress harmonic transients and a singular tonal plasticity. He uses this style out of necessity. When he was 10, he suffered from severe polio which left him little control over his left hand and restricted use of his right. He had been playing guitar prior to his polio and decided to continue in spite of his handicap, and developed his knife method as the only way he could come up with of still playing guitar.

Blues singer/songwriter/guitarist Markus James and the Wassonrai explored the early roots of blues music by mixing the American style with the traditional sounds of the Wassoulou and Sonrai people of Mali, West Africa--the people from whose music most ethnomusicologists believe the blues derived... The trio - Markus on guitar, Mamadou Sidibe on the kamala ngoni (a brand of African harp) and Makane Kouyate on the calabash - mixed not only cultural styles, but languages as well--Markus would sing verses in English and his Malian counterparts would respond either in Bamanakan or in Sonrai (two indigenous languages spoken in Mali.) Markus' guitar seemed to hover over the hypnotic rhythms of both calabash and kamala ngoni--which plays strongly percussive, repetitive pentatonic patterns--adding tasteful riffs and subtle harmonics. The group produced a sound that struck a nearly perfect balance between the ancient and modern blues forms so that they were at once distinguishable and complimentary to one another. Markus' voice was gritty and haunting while Mamadou's and Makane's were smooth and subdued, further upholding the elegant equilibrium of the sound.

Sonny Boy Williamson II, nicknamed "King of the Harmonica" by his peers, was one of the most inspiring harp players in blues history. With his passionate yet understated style, his metronome-like timing, and his endlessly inventive technique, he has influenced generations of players, including such virtuosos as Howling Wolf, James Cotton and Junior Wells. In action "Sonny Boy unfolded slowly," according to blues writer Paul Oliver. "He did not give away all his secrets either in conversation or music. Instead, when he played, he built up the tension of his phrasing with logical development. One had to listen for quite a while as he progressed from short bursts, single notes, punctuated phrases to filigree patterns of complexity and richness. His large, calloused lips enfolded the cheap harps that he played and he seemed to mould the notes through the long fingers of his cupped hands (King Biscuit Time liner notes).

 

Marc Ryan, another long-term admirer, wrote: "The tone of Sonny's harmonica was unusually full, the result of a combination of virtuosic breath control and an especially large resonating chamber created by cupping his hands around his ... harp ... Sonny thus brought unique timbres to his blues, which were ... laden with a joyful sensuality" (Boppin' With Sonny liner notes).

 

Sonny Boy's harp style included "intricately woven phrasing, bold sonic textures, trills and vibrato ... He was also an effective showman -- he could, for instance, put the entire harp in his mouth and still draw notes. More important, his playing made the harp the centre attraction, no matter how many other great blues musicians shared the stage with him (Sonny Boy Blues Society Home Page).

 

For blues harp aficianados, here are some further notes on Sonny Boy's innovative technique:

 

  • His preferred harmonica was a 10-hole Hohner Marine Band or OId Standby, but he sometimes played the larger Marine Bands: the 12-hole 364 and the 14-hole 365. Some publicity photographs show him holding an Echo-Vamper, which is similar to the 364. From time to time -- for example, on "Dissatisfied" -- he used a Hohner Koch Chromatic. It has been claimed that he modified his harps by slightly bending the reeds with a toothpick, but this may have been a misconception.
  • His preferred harmonica keys were F, C, B flat and D, but he also played in E, G and A.
  • He generally played in second position, with the occasional exception (e.g., on "Trust My Baby" be played in first position on a G harp, and on "I Don't Know" he played in third position on a C harp).
  • He used the tongue-blocking (as opposed to lip-puckering) technique most of the time and was an accomplished note-bender.
  • His Chess recordings were characterised by single-note runs, but his Storyville sessions reveal a skilful use of rhythm and chords.
  • He had a largely acoustic sound, playing to a mike on a stand and using his hands extensively for tremolo and wah-wah effects. However, he sometimes opted for an amplified sound, using a mike cupped in his hands (e.g., in "Cross My Heart").
  • Almost all his notes are lower than the 5-hole draw. He rarely used the top octave, but when he did (as in "Sonny's Rhythm") he used it very effectively.

Roosevelt 'Booba' Barnes (September 25, 1936, Longwood, Mississippi - April 2, 1996, Chicago), electric guitarist, band leader and owner of 'The Playboy Club' on Nelson Street in Greenville Mississippi. Booba Barnes did of lung cancer in 1996. His first and only album was released in 1990. The album was hailed by Allmusic as "an instant modern classic" and Guitar Player called Barnes "a wonderfully idiosyncratic guitar player and an extraordinary vocalist by any standard".

Mississippi Gabe Carter was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 14th, 1983. He was raised in rural Southwest Michigan. He was the only child of divorced parents and moved around among towns within the area.

 

Carter was given his first guitar at age five. The guitar was purchased, by his father, for $5.00 at a garage sale. Carter started by teaching himself to play blues on one string. He also played along with his father, who played blues on the piano.

 

As a young man Carter saw a guitarist by the name of Jack Owens -- of Bentonia, Mississippi -- in a documentary that had been rented on video from the local public library. Carter, from that point on, was deeply influenced by the music of Owens; and the school of music that is native to the town of Bentonia. By far, the most well known musician from Bentonia was Skip James.

 

Over the years Carter has spent time in and out of Mississippi learning from his heroes, including the still performing Bentonia great Jimmy Duck Holmes, and he has developed a musical style that is his own and unique, yet is very much rooted in the Bentonia school of blues.

Rainer Ptacek (June 7,1951 ? November 12, 1997) was a Tucson, Arizona-based guitarist and singer-songwriter. His unique guitar technique, which incorporated slide, finger-picking, tape loops and electronic manipulation, earned him admiration of some notable musicians such as Robert Plant and Billy Gibbons. A tribute album to Ptacek, The Inner Flame, included contributions by Plant, Jimmy Page, PJ Harvey, Emmylou Harris and others, and was indicative of his reputation as a "musician's musician". He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early 1996 and died nearly two years later after the illness recurred.

James Lewis Carter Ford (born c1920 Forest, Mississippi) is an American blues musician better known by his stage name, T-Model Ford. Unable to remember his exact date of birth, he began his musical career in his early seventies and has continuously recorded for the Fat Possum Records label.

 

His musical style melds traditional Chicago blues and juke joint blues styles with the rawness of Delta blues and the rebellious attitude of 1970s-style punk. Alternately known as "The Taildragger", Ford, in reference to his age, has been known to tell studio musicians, "T-Model Ford is going to remember you sorry fuckers how it's done."

 

James Ford grew up working various blue collar jobs as early as his preteen years, such as plowing fields, working at a sawmill, and later in life becoming a lumber company foreman and then a truck driver. However, when reflecting on this time in his life, Ford recalls, "I could really stomp some ass back then. I was a sure-enough-dangerous man."

 

During his tenure as a truck driver working another job at a log camp, Ford was sentenced to ten years on a chain gang for murder. Allegedly Ford was able to reduce his sentence to two years.

 

He ensuingly spent many of his years in conflicts with law enforcement. When asked about his run-ins with the law, he jokes, "I don't know [how many times I've been to jail]. How many? Every Saturday night there for awhile."

 

Currently, Ford resides in Greenville, Mississippi and also writes an advice column for Arthur magazine. (This has since ended). Ford claimed to be 88 at his birthday celebration in June 2008. According to records, his birth was somewhere between 1921 and 1925. According to his half-sister (still alive in Tennessee), he was born in 1922.

Dacã-ți plac T-model Ford și RL Burnside, mai sunt și alții din aceeași nișã de blues. Pe cei mai mulți îi gãsești la casa Fat Possum Records.

 

Cine are rãbdare sã-i asculte pe aceºti „vãcari infatuați” va observa cã existã blues, feeling și expresivitate dincolo de Eric Clapton și BB. :)
